The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases is offering a grant to establish a multi-center consortium focused on discovering and validating biomarkers for chronic kidney diseases. The grant aims to address the significant public health issue of CKD in the United States by supporting research to identify new biomarkers or validate existing ones. With the increasing prevalence of CKD, this initiative aligns with NIDDK’s goals of prevention, management, and regression of chronic kidney diseases.

| Description: | Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH), solicits grant applications from institutions/organizations that propose to discover or validate biomarkers for well-defined human chronic kidney diseases (CKD). The purpose of this initiative is to establish a multi-center consortium to discover new and/or validate already identified biomarkers for CKD. CKD is a major public health problem in the United States and in many other industrialized countries. The prevalence of Stage 1-4 CKD in the U.S. increased from 10.0% in 1988-1994 to 13.1% in 1999-2004. The burden of kidney failure, Stage 5 CKD, in the U.S. is also substantial and costly. Prevention, management, and regression of CKD are major goals of the NIDDK. |
