The Department of Defense Tuberous Sclerosis Complex Research Program is offering the Exploration – Hypothesis Development Award for innovative and high-risk tuberous sclerosis complex research. This grant supports groundbreaking concepts by exploring untested ideas that could lead to new hypotheses. Investigators have the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations, with the encouragement to present preliminary data. The focus is on providing a scientific rationale for new hypotheses or developing innovative principles. Applicants need to clearly articulate the project’s innovation and potential impact on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. Refer to the Program Announcement for detailed information. Closing date for applications is Apr 14, 2009.

| Description: | The Exploration Hypothesis Development Award (EHDA) mechanism is being offered for the first time in FY09. The TSCRP Exploration Hypothesis Development Award supports the initial exploration of innovative, untested, high-risk, high-gain, and potentially groundbreaking concepts in tuberous sclerosis complex research. Results of studies conducted through this award may provide the scientific rationale upon which a new hypothesis can be based, or it should provide initial principles of an innovative hypothesis. This award is designed to provide investigators with the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. Some gaps in supporting rationale may exist due to a lack of available information. The presentation of preliminary data is encouraged, but not required. It is the responsibility of the Principal Investigator (PI) to clearly and explicitly articulate the projects innovation and the potential impact on Tuberous Sclerosis Complex. See the Program Announcement for the full Funding Opportunity Description. |
