Additional Information

Agency Name: National Institutes of Health
Description: Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) solicits new and competing continuation applications for Diabetes Endocrinology Research Centers (DERCs) and Diabetes Research and Training Centers (DRTCs). Both types of Centers are designed to support and enhance the national research effort in diabetes and related endocrine and metabolic diseases. DERCs support three primary research-related activities: biomedical research cores, a Pilot and Feasibility (P&F) program, and an Enrichment program. DRTCs possess all elements of a DERC, with additional dedicated core services and P&F awards to support research in diabetes prevention and control. All activities pursued by Diabetes Centers are designed to enhance the efficiency, productivity, effectiveness and multidisciplinary nature of research in Diabetes Center topic areas. The Diabetes Centers program in 2009 consists of 17 Centers each located at outstanding research institutions with documented programs of research excellence in diabetes, endocrine and metabolic diseases.
