The USDA Rural Utilities Service offers grants to communities with high energy costs. With up to $7 million available in Fiscal Year 2012, this program assists areas where residential energy expenditures are over 275 percent of the national average. Eligible applicants include individuals, States, Tribal entities, and more. The funding can be used for energy facility improvements in qualifying communities. The grants aim to reduce the burden of high energy expenses for residents. Applicants must adhere to program regulations and criteria outlined by the RUS. Applications must be submitted by July 30, 2012.
