The Research and Innovative Technology Administration (RITA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation is offering grants for non-profit institutions of higher education to operate National, Regional, and Tier 1 University Transportation Centers (UTCs). These grants aim to advance U.S. technology and expertise in transportation through research, education, and technology transfer. Funding includes up to $3.0 million for National UTCs, $2.75 million for Regional UTCs, and $1.5 million for Tier 1 UTCs. Centers must be located in the U.S. or territories and require matching funds from non-federal sources. Applications must demonstrate financial hardship for the match exemption. Deadline for submission is March 19, 2013.
