This grant aims to encourage co-management of polar bears by involving subsistence users through the Commission and exchanging vital information on polar bear population harvest and trends for sound management practices. The agreement aligns with the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972, focusing on marine mammal cooperative agreements with Alaska Native organizations to support the Commission in obtaining crucial information for subsistence polar bear hunters.
