The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs has recently announced the funding opportunity OFOP0001253, titled “Salvadoran Women in Citizen Security.” This initiative, under the Cooperative Agreement funding instrument, aims to allocate up to $2,000,000 for projects that bolster the participation of women and other underrepresented groups in Salvadoran security institutions.
The grant, which opens for applications until December 1, 2023, targets U.S.-based and foreign non-profit organizations, as well as educational institutions, to undertake projects that address systemic barriers faced by women in joining the National Police Academy (ANSP) and pursuing careers as police officers in El Salvador. The focus of this grant extends to enhancing public communication campaigns to encourage a more diverse range of applicants for the Salvadoran National Civil Police (PNC). Additionally, it aims to provide targeted support through grants that overcome individual challenges faced by underrepresented groups in accessing public service careers within the security sector.
