The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases is offering a grant to support projects that focus on advancing proteomics research in identifying protein expression patterns, post-translational modifications, and protein interactions related to diabetes, obesity, endocrine and metabolic diseases, and digestive and kidney issues. This grant aims to encourage the development of innovative proteomic technologies to study the pathophysiology of various systems including endocrine glands, gastrointestinal tract, liver, and kidneys. The grant is awarded through the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) mechanism and offers flexibility in funding based on the proposed research. Applications for renewal are also welcome.

| Description: | -Purpose. This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), National Institutes of Health (NIH), solicits projects that advance research to identify and quantitate protein expression patterns, post-translational modification of proteins, and protein-protein interactions on cells, tissues, organ systems relevant to diabetes, obesity, endocrine and metabolic diseases, nutritional function and diseases of the alimentary tract, exocrine pancreas, liver, kidney, bladder and prostate and normal biological processes related to the function of these systems. The development and improvement of innovative proteomic technologies is also encouraged through their application to relevant biological questions related to the pathophysiology of endocrine glands, gastrointestinal tract, liver and kidney, bladder and prostate. Mechanism of Support. This FOA will utilize the NIH Research Project Grant (R01) award mechanism and runs in parallel with an FOA of identical scientific scope, PA-06-185, that solicits applications under the Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant mechanism. -Funds Available and Anticipated Number of Awards. Because the nature and scope of the proposed research will vary from application to application, it is anticipated that the size and duration of each award will also vary. The total amount awarded and the number of awards will depend upon the mechanism numbers, quality, duration, and costs of the applications received. -Applications can be renewed by competing for additional project periods. |
