This grant program, established by the Wildlife and Sport Fish Restoration Programs Improvement Act of 2000, aims to provide additional funds to support hunter education and shooting range development. With an initial allocation of $7.5 million in 2001 and 2002, and $8 million thereafter, it seeks to enhance existing programs in response to concerns about the future of hunting.
